It’s most likely linked to the email used. I base that off of that’s what Gravatar uses – you can change the name as much as you want, but as long as you keep the email the same, the gravatar pic will be the same (until you change it).

Mine’s always toast. I think it’s generated off the name you put in, or it remembers what it assigned to the email you supply.
